If you want to save some settings or other values locally at clients' computer, which maybe later used again you should use Flash SharedObjects.

They will allow you to save high scores, sound and video settings for your flash movie and anything else you can think of at local computer .

I would highly recommend this ActionScript 3. Using SharedObjects tutorial for you.
